Why Windshield Protection Film?

Replacing a windshield is expensive and frustrating, and on most modern vehicles it means recalibrating the cameras and sensors mounted to the glass. Windshield Protection film helps prevent the chip in the first place and avoids all of it.

  • Chips stop at the film, not the glass. In gravel impact testing at up to 70 psi*, Clearshield WPF came away with no more than four marks smaller than a pencil tip.
  • It stays clear as it ages. After 5,000 wiper cycles with grit on the glass, haze stayed under 1%. Wipers are what usually cloud a film, so this is the number that matters over years, not weeks.
  • Cooler cabin, less fading. Rejects 24% of the sun’s heat and blocks over 99% of UV.
  • Built to take weather and chemicals. No degradation after heat aging at 248°F, or after soaking in washer fluid, alcohol, or soap and water.
  • Installed by certified dealers. Applied professionally for a clean, bubble-free finish.

*8A or better under SAE J400 gravelometer testing. Haze measured to ECE R43 and ASTM D1003. Solar performance calculated using NFRC methodology.

Clearshield WPF and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)

Most vehicles built in the last decade mount cameras and sensors to the windshield for lane keeping, automatic braking, and adaptive cruise. Replacing that glass means recalibrating those systems, and recalibration done incorrectly can affect how they perform.

Aftermarket glass brings its own risks: fit and seal problems, wind noise, and in some cases an effect on resale value. Keeping your original windshield intact with windshield protection film avoids all of that headache.

Maintaining Clearshield WPF

  • What to expect after installation. You may notice slight haziness in the first few days. That’s moisture left under the film during installation, and it clears on its own as it dries.
  • Keeping it clean. Mild soap and water is all it needs. Rinse first so grit doesn’t get dragged across the surface, then wipe with a soft microfiber cloth. Avoid ammonia-based cleaners and abrasive pads.
  • Two things to avoid.
    • Don’t run your wipers on dry glass. Spray washer fluid or water first, the same as you would to avoid scratching the windshield itself.
    • Don’t use an ice scraper. Use a de-icing spray or warm water to soften ice, then clear it with a soft cloth or gloved hand. Never use boiling water, which can thermally shock the glass.
  • Clearshield Ceramic Spray. Designed specifically for Solar Gard our ceramic spray coating delivers up to six months of resilient protection in every application.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Windshield protection film protects you while you drive. It's a clear film applied to the outside of the glass that absorbs the impact of rocks and road debris before that force reaches the windshield.

Pricing is set by dealers and varies with the size and curvature of your windshield. For comparison, replacing a modern windshield typically runs well over $1,000, and vehicles with driver assistance systems also need the cameras recalibrated afterward.

Clearshield WPF transmits 89% of visible light, so it's designed to be unnoticeable. Slight haziness in the first few days is normal and clears as the film dries.

Clearshield WPF has a protective top layer built for wiper contact, and held haze below 1% through 5,000 wiper cycles in testing. Only run wipers on a wet windshield.

Clearshield WPF carries a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty, whichever comes first. Service life depends on climate, highway mileage, and the condition of your wiper blades.

Adhesive failure, bubbling, cracking, crazing, delamination, peeling, yellowing, and other manufacturing defects. Coverage requires installation by an authorized Solar Gard dealer. Your dealer can provide the full document including exclusions.

No film prevents all windshield damage. Clearshield WPF substantially reduces chipping from rocks and road debris, but a severe enough impact can still reach the glass.

Clearshield WPF is installed by certified Solar Gard dealers, and warranty coverage requires it.
